Why can some organs regenerate while others can’t?

In an article published in The Conversation’s Curious Kids series, Monash BDI’s Professor Jose Polo explained why some organs regenerate while others can’t. Scientists have been working on this question for many years, and they now have a good idea of how this works. Likening cells in the body to Lego blocks, Professor Polo explained how there are special cells in some organs called stem cells, and these cells are key to regeneration.
